SUCESS STORIES / TESTIMONIALS

For the first time ever, I placed (State Runner-up) at the USA Folkstyle competition the first year that I attended The School of Champions.
I have learned more than just the regular drilling we did at our normal youth practice sessions. I have learned about the other mental aspects. They really have pushed me to become a better wrestler.
- School of Champions Student
My son has attened the School of Champions for two years and is looking forward to the upcoming session. He really loves the intensity of the sessions and is motivated to work hard when he is in a room filled with many of Minnesota's finest talent. The instructors dissect every move and take the time to answer questions. I think SOC is an excellent opportunity for any wrestlers to get ahead of the competition, as long as they are willing to learn.

School of Champions - 2005 Training Cirriculum

Advanced Techniques
All top, bottom and standing positions of wrestling will be addressed throughout the training session. Key technical skills include: Stance/motion, penetration, finishes, defense, tie-ups, offensive attacks, defensive attacks, riding, pinning, escapes, matching strategies, etc.
Intensity and Mental Discipline Training
Intensity and mental discipline are learned. We will train the body and mind to become more intense. Intensity is a must for a successful wrestler. Mental training techniques will be taught to push the mind to new levels to allow your body to follow. Proper mental preparation is as important to a wrestler as techniques and conditioning.
Nutrition Education
Being able to maintain a healthy and nutritious diet is very important. Good nutrition can be the difference between success and failure. Just like the whole sport of wrestling, a good diet takes discipline. It is neither easy nor fun to eat healthy but very critial to reach the next level.
Strength and Conditioning
Wrestlers are different than other athletes. The sport is different, so we must train different. This especially holds true in weight training. We must train differently in the weight room. We will incorporate strength training techniques used by elite level wrestlers to get to your body in proper condition. Conditioning is another major area of focus. Fatigue can limit your ability and mentally inhibit your improvement and performance. We will train hard and learn how to push your body to a new level of fitness.
Weight Loss and Weight Management
Many wrestlers spend the majority of their effort and time worrying about their weight instead of improving. Most wrestlers do not have a concrete plan on how to diet and maintain weight effectively. We will share several techniques that have been proven to work for today’s elite level wrestlers.
Video Critiques
Possessing the knowledge to properly scout and prepare for opponents and critique oneself is essential for success. This is an untapped avenue for young wrestlers. Video critique of oneself and scouting of opponents can help in your training and preparation. Learning from mistakes can help you improve exponentially and knowing an opponents tendencies and movements can help you prepare for big matches.
Personal Wrestling Portfolio
The director will keep a file on all athletes participating in the School of Champions. Each student will receive a personal wrestling portfolio at the conclusion of each session. This portfolio will outline the accomplishments of the student and also aid them in continuing to improve their wrestling abilities.

Pre-Season vs. In-Season
Prior to the regular high school season, the session will consist of intense pre-season training so you will be in shape and ready to go when the high school wrestling season begins. Running, technique, hard wrestling and weight traning will be a major part of the session. We will help you to get your timing back along with increasing your aerobic base. We will also begin teaching proper weight management techniques, video critiquing, mental training and goal setting for the upcoming seasion.
Once the regular high school season begins we will focus more on the technique and problem areas with the wrestlers along with the continuation of the mental training, weight management and goal setting. This portion of the session is to compliment the workouts and training the wrestlers are already receiving at the normal high school practices. Classes will be less intense and more technical.
* In order to provide the highest quality training for all students, the class time will be finalized one-week prior to the first class. The duration of each class will be 1 1/2 to 2 hours during the approximate time period of 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
