Coby Moore

Welcome to Part 4 of the J Robinson Intensive Camps Black Hat Award Interview Series! This season, between November and March, we will be hosting short Google Hangout interviews with each of our 16 Black Hat Winners from this past summer. Our winners come from states across the country, and our fourth interview will be with Coby Moore, a junior wrestler from Bay City Western High School in Auburn, Michigan, and a 28-Day Minnesota Intensive Camp Black Hat Award winner.

What was your favorite part of camp and why did you choose to come here?

My favorite part of camp is wrestling live at hard practice. I also like competing with others and pushing myself.

Who is a role model that you look up to and why?

A role model for me would be my dad, and also my coach Joe. They’re both great wrestlers and great people.

What/who is your inspiration to wrestle and why?

My dad is my inspiration and I want him to be proud of me. I am very competitive and I want to be the best.

What is the most valuable thing you learned at camp?

I learned to break through the wall and always keep pushing.

What's the most important quality that a successful wrestler must have?

Motivation, drive, and self-discipline.

To improve as a person I need to…

I need to learn how to work with others, be more kind, and give back.

What was the hardest thing about camp?

To try my hardest every practice and to give it my all, all the time.

What advice would you give to a future camper?

Never stop working hard, you can always do more, and if J says “missing something?” to you, you’re going to do push-ups!

What makes wrestling different from other sports/activities you participate in?

Wrestling is 2 men pretty much fighting each other, or inflicting your will on the other man.

Who was your favorite coach at camp and why?

I liked all coaches but I really like Josh Mora, he taught me a lot and was nice to me.
