How do you prevent dehydration and weight loss at camp?
All wrestlers are given a large water bottle at check-in. They do not go anywhere during camp without it and are penalized if they do not bring it. We take frequent water breaks during practices, and take extra precautions if the weather becomes very warm. We weigh each wrestler at check-in day, and that baseline weight is used for the rest of camp to assess hydration and weight loss. Wrestlers who lose more than 1.5% of their baseline body weight at any point during camp must sit out for a minimum of 2 practices. After that, they will be weighed again to determine if they have regained enough weight to be able to participate.
