Isaac Torrey

In Week 10 of the JROB Black Hat Award Interview Series, we'll visit Isaac Torrey, a Black Hat Winner from our 28-Day Minnesota Intensive Camp from Forest Hills High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

What was your favorite part of camp and why did you choose to come here?

My favorite part of camp was having a variety of partners to learn different styles from. I chose to come here because my brother did the camp and I saw how much better he got.

Who is a role model that you look up to and why?

My role model is my dad. He always helps me find opportunities to get better and work hard. He also taught me to never give up.

What/who is your inspiration to wrestle and why?

My brother is one of my biggest inspirations to wrestle because he was a wrestler and I want to make him proud.

What is the most valuable thing you learned at camp?

I think the most valuable thing I learned at camp is to be grateful for every part of my life.

What's the most important quality that a successful wrestler must have?

I believe the most important quality that a wrestler must have is the ability to sacrifice.

To improve as a person I need to…

Give back to the less fortunate when I have opportunities to.

What was the hardest thing about camp?

I would say the hardest part of camp was pushing through days that you felt the worst.

What advice would you give to a future camper?

I would tell a future camper to make sure to go to sleep as soon as you can each night because sleep is very important here.

What makes wrestling different from other sports/activities you participate in?

Wrestling is different from other sports because the mental toughness required is beyond comparison.

Who was your favorite coach at camp and why?

I liked a lot of the coaches at camp but my favorite was Brett Pfarr because he made us work hard and he knows how to lighten the mood.
