John Means
Camp Director
Director John Means is an experienced, respected name in the golfing community. He has experienced success at multiple levels of competition and has been at the forefront of golf instruction for the past thirty years. Coach Means was named Head Golf Coach at the University of Minnesota for Men’s Athletics. Means also served as co-director of the Lee Bolstad / University of Minnesota Golf Course.

Means began his coaching career at in 1978 at Longfellow High School (Norman, OK), where he served as the basketball and golf coach. He led his squad to a state title that season, boasting a 12-0 record. Means moved on to West Point in 1981, where he held the head coaching position at the US Military Academy. Coach Means served eleven seasons with the Army, in which he directed the team to ten consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship team titles.
Since his arrival in Minnesota, he has exceeded expectations to turn around Minnesota golf! Means guided the resurgence of the Gophers as a national power. His team consistently finished higher in the national ranking on an annual basis.
Means retired from collegiate coaching in 2002 to focus on developing a premiere, state-of-the-art learning center in Lake Elmo, MN. This forty-acre facility was opened Spring 2003. Means also works with “Mulligan Masters”, a complete learning center for golfers.

Coach Mean’s dedication to the game of golf has been richly rewarded…
•He took a Colorado State program and rebuilt it into a conference contender •At West Point he turned the Army program into a dominant force in the MAAC and the new Patriot League Conference
•1981-1990 West Point, 1 place finish, MAAC & Patriot conferences •1991 – 1997 Minnesota, Big Ten Top Five finishes
•1998 Minnesota, NCAA 7th Place National Finish
•Freshman James McLean became the second freshman in NCAA history to win the NCAA Division I Championship, shooting a record-tying 17 under par
•1999 - 2001 Minnesota, NCAA 11, 12, 15 place finishes respectively
•2002 Minnesota, NCAA 1st Place Championship

Lee has an extensive background in the golf instruction arena. He is a well-regarded PGA teaching professional, a C.H.E.K. Certified Golf Biomechanics, and has earned a G.S.E.B degree . Lee’s knowledge in Golf Biomechanics allows him to provide his students with a curriculum designed to improve performance in golfers by addressing golf-specific conditioning needs. Lee also utilizes computer digital video in his instruction in order to obtain heightened communication with his students.

He studied the golf swing for over 20 years under the guidance of such professionals as Jim Flick, Peter Kostis, Paul Bertholy, Mike Hebron, Tom Tomasello, Jim Suttie, Rick McCord, Dick Farley, and Peter Corker. Lee is an authorized instructor for The Golfing Machine and has an array of impressive golfing credentials:
